Oliver Overruns Max as the Year’s Top Male Kitten Name

Move over Max. It’s Oliver’s time to shine. After five years as the most popular male kitten name, Max is no longer number one, according the Vetstreet.com’s list of the Most Popular Kitten Names of 2013. While the male category crowned a new first place winner, Bella proved its staying power as the most popular female kitten name for the seventh straight year. In fact, Bella is the top female name choice for both puppies and kittens. (Those Twilight films must have really spoken to the pet owners of America.)

The list is complied through a search of Vetstreet’s database of 425,000 kittens born since Jan. 1. As with the list of most popular puppy names, the same kitten names have held strong over the last few years—though some have swapped spots.

In the female category, Lucy moved to the second spot, and Kitty—which was number one from 2000-2006—fell to the number three spot. Nala joined the top 10 at number nine, moving up from the number 13 spot.
