Pet Food Express Adopt-a-thon Sets Records
November 20, 2013

A record-setting 690 animals were adopted at the third-annual Bay Area Pet Fair & Adopt-a-thon hosted and organized by Pet Food Express, a California pet store chain with 48 stores. The event was held in San Rafael, Calif., in October.

"We believe this is the most animals ever adopted at one location ever in California and perhaps the country," says Mike Murray, community relations director at Pet Food Express.

For each pet adopted, $50 was donated to the adopting group, and each adopting family received at $25 Pet Food Express gift card.

The free event—sponsored by Natural Balance, Wellness, Bayer, Red Barn Naturals, Central Garden & Pet, Stella & Chewy's and others—also featured activities and entertainment for pets and people. Splash Dogs offered dog dock-diving, where dogs could jump and compete. The Bay Area K-9 teams performed demos, and the event featured dozens of pet treats, food, apparel and accessory vendors with giveaways.
