The Pet Business staff is hard at work putting together a variety of Global Pet Expo’s official publications as this year’s edition of the show quickly approaches, which takes place Feb. 20-22 in Orlando, Fla.

If you’ve been to Global Pet Expo in the past, you know that as the pet industry’s largest annual trade show, this is the premier event for pet product retailers, featuring a mammoth show floor, exciting special events and a number of valuable educational opportunities. If you’ve never been to Global Pet Expo before, you should seriously consider heading to Orlando to see what all of the buzz is about.

Here is just a taste of the many highlights of this year’s show:

• Retailer Excellence Awards—Now in its second year, the Retailer Excellence Awards honor a broad spectrum of pet specialty retailers, from large traditional full-line chains to single-store mom and pops that specialize in live animal sales. Come to the Global Pet Expo Pet Industry Breakfast on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 8 a.m. to see who takes top honors in this year’s awards ceremony.

• New Products Showcase—As it does every year, the 2013 edition of Global Pet Expo will feature a New Products Showcase where retailers can find all of the industry’s latest and most exciting product introductions in one place. After perusing the Showcase and voting for your favorite products, come to the New Products Showcase Awards ceremony on Thursday, Feb. 21, at 5 p.m. to watch Good Morning America’s resident veterinarian Dr. Marty Becker announce the top vote-getters in a number of product categories.

• A World-Class Educational Program—This year the organizers of Global Pet Expo have outdone themselves in crafting a series of educational seminars that are sure to help any pet specialty retailer improve their bottom line. Featuring a mix of attendees’ favorite speakers from past editions of the show, as well as some brand-new seminar leaders, the Global Pet Expo Speaker Series will cover a wide range of topics, from store design to balancing your budget to various forms of marketing.

Unfortunately, not every pet storeowner and operator will be able to attend this year’s Global Pet Expo. To those of you who simply cannot make it, I recommend you check back with PetBusiness.com, Pet Business’ Twitter, Facebook and Instagram feeds, and the pages of Pet Business magazine for full coverage of all these highlights, and more, during and after the show.
