Bamboo Adding Safety Gates
January 25, 2010

NORTH HILLS, Calif.—Bamboo, the pet care division of leading baby product manufacturer Munchkin Inc., announced the purchase of Lindam, the U.K.’s number-one safety brand and leading international developer of nursery products.  This acquisition includes the addition of the company’s market-leading gates, which will become a portfolio within Bamboo’s pet care division.

“Munchkin’s purchase of Lindam accomplishes two strategic objectives for our future growth.  First, this transaction instantly provides a substantial footprint in Europe from which we can accelerate the growing international distribution of our existing portfolio.  Second, it gives us access in the U.S. to a large and attractive new category in safety gates—an area that hosts a tremendous opportunity for growth within the pet product industry,” stated Steven B. Dunn, chairman and chief executive officer, Munchkin Inc.  “This is an excellent strategic addition for both Munchkin and Bamboo given the complementary nature of our companies’ product portfolios.”

Lindam is a privately-held company based in the U.K. with a 20-year heritage in developing products that parents can trust.  Similar to Munchkin, Lindam is an established brand with a loyal customer base rooted in its consistent delivery of innovative products.  Lindam’s current baby care portfolio includes safety gates, baby monitors, feeding accessories, jumpers, and other nursery products.

“The pet industry has burgeoned into a $40 billion a year business sector,” said Mark Rycroft, managing director of Lindam. “The integration of our innovative product portfolios will offer pet owners safety gates crafted with pets in mind to meet the standards of the baby industry, but tailored with durable materials and practical designs offering a lifetime of safety for pet owners.”
